I am so excited to have your child in my Pre-Kindergarten class. I will do my best to help him/her develop the essential pre-kindergarten skills, as well as a love for school during the year. We will be learning and working on many skills and concepts all year long. Please encourage your child to tell about his/her day. Our program is based on the philosophy that children learn by making choices, manipulating materials and interacting with both children and adults. Children learn by doing. We use the Balance Literacy curriculum and the activities are based on the Amarillo Standards and the Texas PreK Guidelines. The kids come to school at different levels. Some are writing and on the verge of reading to some who have never held a crayon. Our classroom is set up into a variety of centers where the students can communicate, explore, play, and learn with other students. Activities and the classroom materials will be planned to meet the different needs of each of the students.
I have lived in Amarillo for over 30 years. I have taught PreKindergarten at Whittier for 15 years. I have a 5-year-old cat named Mr. Mollie and a 3 month old toy poodle named Sophie. I like to garden and crochet.
