Welcome to Whittier Elementary. Whittier is a Recognized Campus with 601 outstanding students and 50 staff members. The ethnicity is 71% Hispanic, 13% White, 10% Black, 3% Asian and 3% Other. Ninety-three percent qualify for free and reduce lunch. Thirty-two percent are Bilingual and 10% qualify for English as a Second Language. Whittier is a Title I campus. Whittier uses Title I funds to have Reading Recovery, Leveled Literacy Instruction, Class Size Reduction Teacher and other interventions.
Whittier is a No Excuses University School which promotes College Readiness and creates student success. On the TAKS test, 94% of the students passed with 28% commended, 93% passed Math with 45% commended, 91% passed Writing and 89% passed Science. Because of this success the Texas Education Agency awarded Whittier with a Gold Performance Acknowledgment in Math, Writing and Science.
